Meet Mitchell Tonks

Mitch Tonks - 'A Fishmonger for the 21st Century'

Mitch Tonks teamed up with Young’s in 2005, bringing with him his wealth of experience as a fishmonger, chef and restaurateur. Mitch works with us to help make cooking with fish more accessible to everyone – his delicious recipes show how versatile and easy fish dishes are to prepare and will inspire even the most timid fish cook to feel confident.

Award-Winning
Mitch has a long list of restaurant awards, he's been voted Tatler’s ‘Restaurateur of the Year and was heralded by The Independent newspaper as “a fishmonger for the 21st Century’. He has an honest passion to enthuse, cook and inspire others to enjoy seafood; sentiments he shares with Young’s.

Celebrity
A favourite on Saturday Kitchen and UKTV’s Market Kitchen, Mitch’s good humour and constant relish for good food are infectious. His straightforward advice on buying and preparing fish helps to remove much of the mystery around seafood. He’s constantly in demand to appear on radio and TV, as well as judging industry awards such as the annual UK Seafood Championships in association with Young’s.

Campaigner
Working closely with Young’s, Mitch is also one of the industry’s most vocal advocates of seafood sustainability and is committed to encouraging the British public to eat more varieties of fish from sustainable sources, more often. He’s also an active supporter of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)’s drive to certify and promote the best environmental fish choices to safeguard the world’s seafood supply.

What’s new?
Mitch has been busy recently with a brand new restaurant venture, The Seahorse, located on the waterfront in Dartmouth. He’s also working on a major new book which will demystify the subject of cooking and eating seafood and look at the ethics behind the industry. Plus, Mitch is planning a major new TV series for November 2008… watch this space for more news!
